Bangladesh vs Wes Indies 2009: 3rd ODI

This is the review of the 3rd ODI match between Bangladesh and West Indies of Digicel ODI series. Bangladesh defeated West Indies in the 1st match and 2nd match of this series and won the series. Prior to this Bangladesh Cricket team won the test series against West Indies on July 2009.

West Indies: 248/10 in 47.4 overs
Bangladesh: 249/7 in 48.5 overs

Toss: West Indies won the toss and elected to bat first.
Result: Bangladesh won by 3 wickets
Man of the Match: Mahmudullah Riad
Man of the Series: Shakib Al Hasan

West Indies' innings: West Indies batted well today. Even though the first wicket fell in the 1st legitimate delivery (1st ball= wide, 2nd ball= wicket) of the match, they looked really strong and looked like they will get a bigger score. But thanks to some good bowling they could not cross 250. Mahbubul Alam, Mahmudullah Riad and Abdur Razzak took 2 wickets each. Nazmul and Naeem took one. Even though Shakib couldn't take any wickets today, he was very economical (9.4-2-28-0-2.89).

scorecard bangladesh vs west indiesFall of wickets: 1-1 (Powell, 0.1 ov), 2-10 (Smith, 3.1 ov), 3-86 (Fletcher, 15.1 ov), 4-115 (Dowlin, 24.6 ov), 5-124 (Bernard, 27.1 ov), 6-188 (Reifer, 36.6 ov), 7-190 (Sammy, 37.6 ov), 8-221 (Miller, 42.5 ov), 9-244 (Roach, 46.5 ov), 10-248 (Tonge, 47.4 ov)

Bangladesh's innings: An excellent and exciting innings. Bangladesh started with a bang. Tamim and Junaid played attackingly. Junaid got a 50. Ashraful was looking good even though he got out scoring just 19. But I thought Mushfiq and Riad played the most important role in the batting line up today. West Indies should work on their fielding and also on team spirit. A lot of catches and run out chances were missed today. Roach took 4 wickets.

Fall of wickets: 1-54 (Tamim Iqbal, 8.2 ov), 2-83 (Mohammad Ashraful, 15.2 ov), 3-96 (Raqibul Hasan, 19.1 ov), 4-128 (Shakib Al Hasan, 23.4 ov), 5-133 (Junaid Siddique, 27.4 ov), 6-183 (Mushfiqur Rahim, 39.4 ov), 7-232 (Naeem Islam, 46.5 ov)

Congratulations to Bangladesh for winning the series 3-0

Bangladesh vs Wes Indies 2009: 2nd ODI

This is the review of the 2nd ODI match between Bangladesh and West Indies of Digicel ODI series. Bangladesh defeated West Indies in the 1st match of this series. Prior to this Bangladesh Cricket team won the test series against West Indies on July 2009. This was also the 200th ODI for Bangladesh.

West Indies: 274/6 in 50 overs
Bangladesh: 276/7 in 49 overs

Toss: West Indies won the toss and elected to bat first.
Result: Bangladesh win by 3 wickets
Man of the Match: Shakib Al Hasan

West Indies' innings: West Indies batted extremely well today. The batmen looked very strong and their projected score is also very good. But I must say that the run out of DM Richards was so silly. It would have been out if he just looked back and ran back to his crease. He just gave up and walked towards the dressing room without looking back and seeing what was happening. Shakib, Rasel, Razzak, Naeem took one wicket each. Congratulations to Dowlin for his century.

bangladesh vs west indies 2nd ODI scorecardFall of wickets: 1-33 (Fletcher, 5.1 ov), 2-52 (Richards, 10.3 ov), 3-118 (Smith, 28.1 ov), 4-134 (Reifer, 32.2 ov), 5-181 (Bernard, 40.5 ov), 6-245 (Lewis, 47.3 ov)

Bangladesh's innings: What a chase it was! It was the successful highest run chase by Bangladesh (previous one was against Australia in 2005, 250 runs). Bangladesh started their innings very slowly. But later they came on top with the help of Ashraful, Shakib and Mushfiq. Actually all the tigers batted good today. Ashraful and Shakib scored a fifty each. It was the second fifty of this series for Ashraful. I hope he continues to play like this. But yet today, Ashraful got out playing an unnecessary shot. It was really a thrilling chase. for a long time in the chase the fighting was neck to neck. Anyway, I am very happy that Bangladesh has won the ODI series too.

Bangladesh vs West Indies 2009: 1st ODI

3 ODI matches will be played in this Digicel ODI series between Bangladesh and West Indies. This is the match review of Bangladesh vs West Indies 1st ODI.

Bangladesh: 246/9 (50 overs)
West Indies: 194/10 (43.4 overs)

Toss: West Indies won the toss and elected to field first.
Result: Bangladesh won by 52 runs.
Man of the Match: Abdur Razzak

Bangladesh’s innings: Oh! Bangladesh Cricket Team lost their first wicket in the first ball. Tamim got out trying to play a silly shot and giving a catch to the keeper. But later Bangladesh had a really nice time in the field. The 74 runs partnership between Junaid Siddique and Mohammad Ashraful really helped Bangladesh to recover from the loss of Tamim so early. I was really happy and relieved to see Ashraful score a fifty today. If he didn’t score in this series too, his place in the team would have been really challenged. Later Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah Riad also played a great innings. But I was really disappointed at how the innings ended for Bangladesh. At 47th over they were 228/5. But they ended up losing quick wickets. Bangladesh cricket team should have gathered a bigger score. KAJ Roach took 5 wickets in this match.

Fall of wickets: 1-0 (Tamim Iqbal, 0.1 ov), 2-74 (Junaid Siddique, 16.5 ov), 3-97 (Raqibul Hasan, 23.1 ov), 4-128 (Mohammad Ashraful, 30.6 ov), 5-149 (Mushfiqur Rahim, 35.5 ov), 6-228 (Mahmudullah, 46.5 ov), 7-230 (Shakib Al Hasan, 47.2 ov), 8-231 (Abdur Razzak, 47.5 ov), 9-241 (Syed Rasel, 49.3 ov)

West Indies’ innings: By third over West Indies was 8/2. They lost more two wickets quickly too. But they regained their composure with the help of DS Smith. An interesting this of today’s match was, Abdur Razzak bowled on the opening spell… and it worked. But then the partnership of 78 runs between Smith and Bernard got them in a comfortable position. But thanks to spinners, especially Abdur Razzak (9.4-0-39-4), it coudln't cause much problem at the end. They got all out scoring 194. Rasel, Shakib, Mahmudullah, Rubel, Naeem took one wicket each.

Fall of wickets: 1-2 (Richards, 1.1 ov), 2-8 (Fletcher, 2.5 ov), 3-23 (Reifer, 7.2 ov), 4-42 (Dowlin, 11.6 ov), 5-120 (Smith, 28.1 ov), 6-130 (Bernard, 31.1 ov), 7-171 (Lewis, 39.4 ov), 8-188 (Sammy, 41.6 ov), 9-191 (Roach, 43.1 ov), 10-194 (Pascal, 43.4 ov)

Congratulations to the Tigers

Bangladesh 1st innings: Review on Day 2 with full scorecard

West Indies 2nd innings: West Indies started today’s play with the lead of 61 runs and 10 wickets in hand. But they didn’t have a chance today in front of the spinners. The wickets fell too quickly. If rain didn’t stop the match then Bangladesh definitely will have the chance to bat today. Today only 42 overs were played. The captain of the Bangladesh cricket team Shakib Al Hasan was excellent today. He took 4 wickets (22-3-61-4). Enamul Haque jr took 2 (15-2-42-2). Shahadat Hossain (4-0-18-1) and Mahmudullah Riad (15-1-37-1) took 1 wicket each. I was really hoping for the rain to stop. I don’t think that the rest 2 wickets would have lasted long. Read the review of Day 4.

Fall of Wickets: 1-20 (Richards, 7.4 ov), 2-72 (Phillips, 30.1 ov), 3-84 (Hinds, 34.6 ov), 4-95 (Reifer, 39.4 ov), 5-110 (Dowlin, 41.5 ov), 6-166 (Sammy, 57.2 ov), 7-167 (Walton, 58.2 ov), 8-187 (Austin, 64.2 ov)

Bangladesh vs West Indies 2009: 2nd Test, Day 2

On the day 1 of this 2nd test match West Indies couldn't manage to bat well. Bangladesh bowled them out in 237 runs. Now it's the turn for Bangladesh Cricket Team to bat.

West Indies 1st innings: 237/10 (76.1 overs, Day 1)
Bangladesh 1st innings: 232/10 (79.5 overs, Day 1 and Day 2)

West Indies 2nd innings: 56/1 (23.0 overs, Day 2)

West Indies' 1st innings: Read about it on day 1 with full scorecard.

Bangladesh's 1st innings: After Day 1... Bangladesh started today's play with 35 runs and 10 wickets in hand. Bangladesh didn't play good today. Tamim (37 in 59) played a moderate innings compared to the other players. Raqibul Hasan (44 in 104) was playing good but he couldn't hold on either. Mushfiq (48 in 58) was really helpful down the order. He helped Bangladesh to reach a presentable total. But as a team, the tigers failed. I just hope that they can play better in the 2nd innings of the match, so that they can ensure the series win. KAJ Roach took 6 wickets.

bangladesh vs west indies scorecard 2nd testFall of wickets: 1-26 (Imrul Kayes, 6.5 ov), 2-51 (Enamul Haque, 13.4 ov), 3-75 (Tamim Iqbal, 22.3 ov), 4-77 (Junaid Siddique, 23.1 ov), 5-106 (Mohammad Ashraful, 33.2 ov), 6-150 (Raqibul Hasan, 51.6 ov), 7-157 (Shakib Al Hasan, 55.1 ov), 8-219 (Mushfiqur Rahim, 73.3 ov), 9-223 (Shahadat Hossain, 75.1 ov), 10-232 (Mahmudullah, 79.5 ov)

Bangladesh vs West Indies 2009: 2nd Test, Day 1

Today Bangladesh is facing West Indies for the second time in this series of two test matches. Bangladesh cricket team is being led by Shakib Al Hasan as Mashrafe Mortaza was injured in the last match (1st Test). If Bangladesh wins or at least draw this test, they will win their first ever test series in abroad.

West Indies: 237/10 (76.1 overs, Day 1)
Bangladesh: 35/1 (10.0 overs, Day 1)

Toss: Bangladesh won the toss and elected to field first.

West Indies’ 1st innings: The first two partnerships were looking good. But they were not strong enough. Wickets started to fall in a regular basis and the "new" West Indies team failed to perform in front of the Bangladesh cricket team. Only DM Richards (69 in 80) and TM Dowlin (95 in 162) made a strong impression on the match. The star bowler of the previous match, Mahmudullah Riad took 3 wickets. The captain of the Bangladesh Cricket Team Shakib Al Hasan and Enamul Haque jr also took 3 wickets each. Shahadat Hossain took 1. Even thought the tigers managed to restrict West indies in a low total, I think that Shakib made a really bad and selfish decision. Riad took 3 wickets in his first 5 overs (WI were 114/4, 3 to Riad and 1 to Shakib). Still Shakib used Riad for just 13 overs, when Shakib and Enamul bowled 21 and 24 overs. Shakib replaced Riad after his 5 overs and brought Enamul into attack and they both bowled a very long spell. Why did he do that?

scorecard bangladesh vs west indies 2nd test 1

Fall of wickets: 1-60 (Phillips, 12.6 ov), 2-104 (Richards, 22.3 ov), 3-106 (Hinds, 22.5 ov), 4-114 (Reifer, 26.6 ov), 5-157 (Bernard, 43.2 ov), 6-158 (Sammy, 44.1 ov), 7-160 (Walton, 44.6 ov), 8-219 (Austin, 70.3 ov), 9-220 (Best, 71.4 ov), 10-237 (Dowlin, 76.1 ov)

Bangladesh's 1st innings: Bangladesh lost their first wicket very early, in the 7th over. Then Enamul Haque jr came to bat as a night watchman. Bangladesh played 10 overs today.

Fall of wickets: 1-26 (Imrul Kayes, 6.5 ov)

Full scorecard is posted here on Day 2. The live scorecard is here.

Bangladesh vs West Indies 2009: 1st Test

This was the 1st test of the Digicel Test Series between Bangladesh and West Indies.

Bangladesh: 238/10 and 345/10 (scorecard 1 ~ scorecard 2)
West Indies: 307/10 and 181/10 (scorecard 1 ~ scorecard 2)

Toss: Bangladesh
Result: Bangladesh won by 95 runs
Player of the match: Tamim Iqbal

Match review: This was a historic win for Bangladesh. This is the first ever win against a stronger country in a test match. Previously Bangladesh won against Zimbabwe which was their only win in January 2005. The fans of Tiger Cricket can finally rejoice as their beloved team won a test match after more than 4 years.

At the beginning of this match Bangladesh looked really bad, as they couldn’t bat well in the first innings. West Indies’ also batted well in their first innings. But the last two innings totally (read: almost) belonged to Bangladesh. They scored almost 350 runs and knocked out West Indies in just 181 runs.

Bangladesh will have to win or draw the next math if they want to win this series. Best of luck.

Statistics:
Bangladesh scored a total of 583 runs. West Indies scored 488 runs.

The highest individual run scorer of this match was Tamim Iqbal who scored 142 runs.

The highest wicket taker of this match was debutant Mahmudullah Riad who took 8 wickets.

Congratulations to the Tigers, Mashrafe and Tamim Iqbal.
Best of luck for the next match.

Bangladesh’s 2nd inning: After Day 4… Bangladesh lost the wicket of Shakib Al Hasan (30 in 48) just after 3 overs since the match resumed today. Mahmudullah Also got out soon after Shakib. Infect all the remaining 5 wickets today fell really quick. Yesterday they looked very solid, but today the tigers didn't bat well. Anyway, that doesn't matter as this lead of 276 runs brought Bangladesh their second ever test win.

bangladesh west indies scorecard 1Fall of wickets: After Day 4… 6-327 (Shakib Al Hasan, 108.2 ov), 7-342 (Mahmudullah, 115.6 ov), 8-344 (Mashrafe Mortaza, 118.3 ov), 9-344 (Mushfiqur Rahim, 119.1 ov), 10-345 (Rubel Hossain, 120.1 ov)

West Indies' 2nd inning: What can I say, the West Indies' players looked good in the first innings, but in this innings they just stumbled infront of the spinners of the bangladesh cricket team. Mahmudullan Riad took 5 wickets in this innings. It was his debut match. Shakib Al Hasan took 3 and Mohammad Ashraful took 1 wicket. There was a run out this this wicket which was directed by Raqibul Hasan. The pacers Shahadat and debutant Rubel didn't get any wickets. The tiger captain did not bowl in this innings because of his knee pain (again). I hope that his knee heals soon. In the West Indies line up no one could pose a threat to Bangladesh exept DE Bernard. He scored an unbeaten 52 runs 134 balls.

bangladesh west indies scorecard 2Fall of wickets: 1-20 (Richards, 2.1 ov), 2-33 (Phillips, 5.6 ov), 3-69 (Reifer, 22.2 ov), 4-72 (Dowlin, 24.4 ov), 5-82 (Walton, 28.3 ov), 6-119 (Sammy, 39.6 ov), 7-151 (Miller, 57.2 ov), 8-164 (Austin, 63.2 ov), 9-172 (Roach, 65.5 ov), 10-181 (Best, 70.1 ov).

The bottom line is Bangladesh Won. Now tiger fans can celebrate after a long time.

Bangladesh’s 2nd inning: The tigers roared this time…finally. The opening partnership was of 82 runs, which is quite good for Bangladesh. The second wicket partnership between Tamim Iqbal (128 in 243) and Junaid Siddique (78 in 160) was the most valuable one which was worth 146 runs. Tamim got his hundred today. Soon after he reached his 100 he switched gear and started to play attacking yet sensible cricket. In the over he got out he hit 4 consecutive fours. Junaid also played very well and secured his fifty. If Bangladesh wants to win this match, they will have to play really good and at the same time make some strokes so that the bowlers of Bangladesh cricket team can feel safe. When the day came to an end Shakib Al Hasan (26* in 40) and Mushfiqur Rahim (28* in 59) were unbeaten. And yet another very disappointing inning from Mohammad Ashraful who scored just 3.

Fall of wickets: 1-82 (Imrul Kayes, 28.3 ov), 2-228 (Tamim Iqbal, 77.6 ov), 3-258 (Junaid Siddique, 86.3 ov), 4-261 (Mohammad Ashraful, 87.1 ov), 5-267 (Raqibul Hasan, 88.6 ov) +Go to Day 5

West Indies’ 1st inning: Almost the whole day belonged to West Indies. At one stage they were 228/4. But luckily Bangladesh clawed back by taking 2 wickets back to back. Those two wickets were taken by Mahmudullah just an over before tea. West Indies dominated the session for the most part, with Bernard and Reifer going smooth but too many dot balls in the few overs before the break prompted the West Indies captain to take a risk that cost him his wicket. Walton followed next ball and all of a sudden, West Indies were six down, when they needed nine more runs to level the scores. But it didn’t prove to be much of a problem for West Indies. Mahmudullah Riad took 4 wickets. Rubel Hossain took 3, Shakib took 2 and Shahadat took 1. At the end of this innings, West Indies were all out at 307. They are leading by 69 runs.

BAN vs WI 2009: 1st Test, Day 2

Bangladesh 1st innings: 238/10 (88.2 overs, Day 2)
West Indies 1st innings: 17/1 (7.0 overs, Day 2) Go to Day 3

Toss: Bangladesh won the toss and selected to bat first.

Bangladesh's Inning: It’s another day of disappointment for the fans of Bangladesh cricket. Even playing against a “backup” West Indies team, batsmen of Bangladesh cricket team has trembled. At the end portion of day 2 Bangladesh got all out scoring just 238 runs. Really disappointing. New captain Mashrafe Mortaza was the highest scorer (39 in 52) of this innings.

Fall of wickets: 1-45 (Tamim Iqbal, 19.6 ov), 2-49 (Imrul Kayes, 22.5 ov), 3-79 (Raqibul Hasan, 36.2 ov), 4-98 (Junaid Siddique, 44.2 ov), 5-100 (Mohammad Ashraful, 45.3 ov), 6-121 (Shakib Al Hasan, 51.6 ov), 7-149 (Mahmudullah, 63.1 ov), 8-172 (Mushfiqur Rahim, 70.2 ov), 9-207 (Mashrafe Mortaza, 79.1 ov), 10-238 (Shahadat Hossain, 88.2 ov).

West Indies' Inning: West Indies played only seven overs today after they got Bangladesh all out. In these seven overs they managed to get 17 runs losing 1 wicket. Trembling stuff from West Indies too. Go to Day 3

Fall of Wickets: 1-15 (Richards, 5.3 ov) Go to Day 3

Because of rain, the first day could hold just 16 overs of cricket. Day 2’s cricket was also interrupted by rain.

For those who don’t know, West Indian players are on a strike demanding better salary and incentives. That’s why West Indies cricket board had to put together a backup team to play against Bangladesh cricket team. In this backup team of 15, there are 9 debutants. They have never played cricket with each other before. I can’t believe that Bangladesh is trembling before this “new” West Indies team too.

I hope that the rain stops soon and we can enjoy a nice day of cricket tomorrow. I hope that the nest day will belong to Bangladesh.
